7-day itinerary for Barcelona

How this 7-day Barcelona plan works

Barcelona slow-travel week

Each day below is grouped geographically so you spend your time in Barcelona rather than in transit. The Metro is fast, cheap and covers every district; a T-casual 10-ride ticket (~€12) is the best value. The Aerobús and R2 Nord train both reach the centre from El Prat (BCN) in ~35 min. The city is largely walkable and cyclable — Bicing (residents) and Donkey Republic (visitors) work well.

Day by day

  • Day 1

Day 1–3 — Barcelona icons at half-day pace.

  • Day 2

Day 4 — Girona and Figueres (Dalí Theatre-Museum) by AVE train.

  • Day 3

Day 5 — Wine day in Penedès (Freixenet/Codorníu cava cellars).

  • Day 4

Day 6 — Camp Nou tour + Poble Espanyol; farewell rooftop bar.

  • Day 5

Day 7 — Beach club day, W Barcelona sunset.

Where to base yourself

  • Eixample

Modernist boulevards, Gaudí landmarks (Casa Batlló, La Pedrera) and boutique hotels.

  • Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic)

Medieval lanes, the cathedral, Plaça Reial and lively tapas bars.

  • El Born

Design shops, Picasso Museum, Santa Maria del Mar and stylish boutique stays.

  • Barceloneta

Beach-front hotels, seafood restaurants and easy Mediterranean access.

Best time to run this itinerary

May–June and September–October give warm 22–28°C days without August's crowds and heat. July–August is hot, humid and busiest (beach season peak). November–March is mild (12–18°C) and rainier, with the lowest hotel rates and easiest museum bookings.

Before you go

  • Watch for pickpockets on La Rambla and the L3 metro line.

  • Lunch is served late — most kitchens open 1:30–4pm, dinner from 8:30pm.

  • Beach clubs in Barceloneta charge cover fees on weekends; book ahead in summer.
