- Pack layers — the desert can hit 35°C by day and drop to 5°C at night in winter
- Bring a scarf or shemagh for wind and sand on the camel trek
- Cash for tips and roadside stops (100–200 DH for the driver, 50 DH per camel guide is customary)
- Charge everything in Marrakech; camp electricity is limited to shared generators for a few evening hours
- Skip flip-flops for the camel ride — closed shoes or trainers hold better in the stirrups
- If you get travel-sick on winding roads, take a tablet before the Tizi n'Tichka pass on day one

3 days / 2 nights is the minimum from Marrakech to Merzouga. 4 days lets you slow down through the Dades and Todra gorges.

Shared group or private tour — which is better?+
Shared 4x4 tours (6 passengers max) are the most affordable and fun for solo travellers. Private tours cost more but let you choose stops, timing and language.

Can I fly back instead of driving?+
