About camel rides
The dromedary — one-humped, patient and surprisingly comfortable — was Morocco's original desert transport, carrying trans-Saharan caravans of salt, silver and spice for over a thousand years. Today, a camel trek is one of the most authentic and photogenic experiences the country offers, and it doesn't require going deep into the Sahara.
From an hour on the Atlantic beach at Essaouira to an overnight ride to a dune camp at Erg Chebbi, every option we list is run by a small Berber operator, with well-cared-for animals and English- or French-speaking guides.

We only list operators whose camels are working reasonable hours (max 4 hours a day), well-fed, veterinary-checked and not made to kneel repeatedly for photos. If a listing loses that standard, we remove it.
The rocking motion takes a few minutes to get used to, and long rides can be uncomfortable on the inner thighs. For anything longer than 90 minutes, ask for a cushion or a saddle blanket.
Sunset rides in Agafay or Essaouira start around €20 per person. Overnight caravan rides in Merzouga typically cost €35–€60 including camp accommodation, dinner and breakfast.
