Best Time to Visit Vancouver
The best time to visit Vancouver: season-by-season weather, crowds and prices, and how to time your dates for cheaper hotels and flights.
Updated 2026-07-01
When to visit Vancouver
June–September is peak — 18–25°C, dry sunny days, sold-out hotels. July–August is warmest but busiest. October–May you'll get rain (Vancouver averages 160+ rain days/year), but October foliage + fog is beautiful and hotels are 30–40% cheaper. December–March = ski season at Cypress, Grouse, Whistler — city rain, mountain snow.
What each season changes
Vancouver is the only major North American city where you can ski in the morning and sail in the afternoon — and eat some of the best Asian food outside Asia.
Season and price
Hotel rates in Vancouver follow demand more closely than weather. Shifting your dates by a week either side of a peak period often moves the nightly rate more than switching hotel category — check live prices for both before committing.
Seasonal planning tips
Tipping 15–20% at restaurants; 5% GST + 5% PST + 2% MRDT hotel tax added at checkout.
Legal cannabis retail (private stores + BC Cannabis Stores); consumption same rules as alcohol — no public/beach smoking.
Bring waterproof layers Oct–May; even 'sunny' days can turn to rain in an hour.
