Dubai 3-Day Itinerary

How this 3-day Dubai plan works

Three days in Dubai works if you accept the city's geography and give each day one district. Downtown first while your body clock is still adjusting, the historic creek second, and the beach plus desert third — in that order you never cross the city twice in a day.

Where to base yourself for this plan

Downtown or Business Bay. Both put day one on foot, keep the creek 15 minutes away by metro, and leave a single 30-minute taxi ride for the beach day.

Day 1: Downtown and the Burj Khalifa

Focus: Downtown Dubai

• Morning

  Dubai Mall when it opens — aquarium tunnel first, then the waterfall atrium — before the crowds build.

• Afternoon

  Burj Khalifa on a late-afternoon slot so you see the city in daylight and lit up on the way down.

• Evening

  Dinner on the Souk Al Bahar terrace with the fountain shows running every half hour below you.

• Getting between them

  Everything is walkable within the Downtown boulevard; use the air-conditioned metro link rather than the surface route in summer.

Day 2: Old Dubai and the souks

Focus: Bur Dubai and Deira

• Morning

  Al Fahidi Historic District early: courtyard museums, the coffee museum and the wind-tower lanes before the heat.

• Afternoon

  Abra across the creek for the Spice and Gold Souks, then lunch in Deira where a full meal costs a fraction of the Downtown equivalent.

• Evening

  Creek-side dinner, or head back for the Dubai Frame at sunset, which sits neatly between the old and new city.

• Getting between them

  Green Line metro to Al Fahidi, abra across for AED 1, and a taxi back — roughly AED 30 to Downtown.

Day 3: Beach morning, desert evening

Focus: Umm Suqeim / inland desert

• Morning

  Kite Beach or JBR for a swim, with the Burj Al Arab in view and breakfast from the beachfront cafés.

• Afternoon

  Check out Madinat Jumeirah's waterways and souk, which is shaded and easy in the heat.

• Evening

  Desert safari pick-up around 15:00–16:00 — dunes at golden hour, then dinner and stargazing at camp.

• Getting between them

  Taxi along the beach road; the safari operator collects from and returns to your hotel, usually back by 21:30.

Adapting this plan

If you arrive on a red-eye, flip days one and two — the creek is far more forgiving on no sleep than a timed Burj Khalifa slot. Travelling with children? Swap the desert evening for a morning conservation drive, which is cooler and much gentler on the stomach.

Best time to run this itinerary

November–March is peak season with 20–28°C days and cool evenings. April and October are still comfortable; June–August is very hot but delivers the deepest hotel discounts.

Before you go

• Fridays start late — brunches are the local social event.

• Modest dress is expected in malls; swimwear is fine on hotel beaches.

• Rideshare (Careem/Uber) is often cheaper than metered taxis for short hops.
