Dubai 5-Day Itinerary

How this 5-day Dubai plan works

Five days is the point where Dubai stops feeling like a stopover. The first three days follow the classic sequence; days four and five add the Palm, a full beach day and a trip to Abu Dhabi, which is the single best day trip in the country.

Beach, city and desert (family-friendly)

Where to base yourself for this plan

Split-stay works well here: two or three nights Downtown for the landmarks, then two nights in the Marina or on the Palm so the second half of the trip is spent by the water.

Day 1: Downtown landmarks

Focus: Downtown Dubai

  Dubai Mall and the aquarium at opening.

• Afternoon

  Burj Khalifa observation deck on a late slot.

• Evening

  Fountain shows and dinner on the lake.

• Getting between them

  All on foot from a Downtown or Business Bay base.

Day 2: The creek and old Dubai

Focus: Bur Dubai and Deira

• Morning

  Al Fahidi's museums and lanes.

• Afternoon

  Abra crossing, Spice and Gold Souks, lunch in Deira.

• Evening

  Dubai Frame at sunset.

• Getting between them

  Metro and a AED 1 abra; taxi home.

Day 3: Palm Jumeirah and the beach

Focus: Palm Jumeirah and JBR

• Morning

  The View at Palm Tower for the only angle that makes the island legible.

• Afternoon

  Beach club or the public beach at JBR, then the Marina Walk.

• Evening

  Dinner along The Beach promenade at JBR.

• Getting between them

  Taxi to the Palm, tram or a short ride back to the Marina.

Day 4: Desert day

Focus: Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve or Al Marmoom

• Morning

  Slow start; late breakfast and a pool morning.

• Afternoon

  Afternoon pick-up for dunes, camels and falconry at golden hour.

• Evening

  Camp dinner under the stars, back around 21:30.

• Getting between them

  Hotel pick-up and drop-off included with almost every operator.

Day 5: Abu Dhabi day trip

Focus: Abu Dhabi

• Morning

  Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque at opening, before the coach groups and the midday glare.

• Afternoon

  Louvre Abu Dhabi under Jean Nouvel's dome, then the Corniche.

• Evening

  Return to Dubai for a last dinner in the Marina.

• Getting between them

  90 minutes each way by road. A driver or organised tour is easier than the intercity bus if you want both the mosque and the Louvre in one day.

Adapting this plan

Reverse the split-stay if you are flying long-haul home — ending Downtown puts you 15 minutes from the airport instead of 45. Add Sharjah's arts district instead of Abu Dhabi if you would rather have museums than monuments, and drop the desert day entirely in July or August when even evening temperatures stay above 35°C.

Best time to run this itinerary

November–March is peak season with 20–28°C days and cool evenings. April and October are still comfortable; June–August is very hot but delivers the deepest hotel discounts.

Before you go

• Fridays start late — brunches are the local social event.

• Modest dress is expected in malls; swimwear is fine on hotel beaches.

• Rideshare (Careem/Uber) is often cheaper than metered taxis for short hops.
