Arriving by train

MTR reaches Shenzhen (Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau borders) and connects to Guangzhou by high-speed rail from West Kowloon (48 min).

Entry and arrival formalities

Digital arrival card (e-Health) required 3 days before arrival — free at fill.gov.hk. QR code shown at immigration.

Most Western passports enter visa-free for 90–180 days (US 90, UK 180, EU 90, Japan/Korea 90). Hong Kong operates its own immigration under 'one country, two systems' — separate from mainland China. Passport must be valid 1+ month after departure.

Getting into the city

MTR (Octopus card) covers the whole city — HK$5–15 per ride, airport express in 24 min for HK$115. Star Ferry (HK$5) crosses the harbour in 10 min for the classic Kowloon ↔ Central sightseeing shot. Trams on Hong Kong Island cost HK$3 flat. Taxis are metered and cheap — red urban, green NT, blue Lantau. HKIA connects to Central in 24 minutes on the Airport Express.
