How this 5-day Kuala Lumpur plan works

KL + Melaka + Genting

Each day below is grouped geographically so you spend your time in Kuala Lumpur rather than in transit. Rapid KL Ampang, Kelana Jaya, Monorail + MRT lines cover the city — MYR 1–5 per ride, MyRapid card. Grab is cheap and honest (KLCC to Bukit Bintang MYR 8). KL Sentral is the transit hub — KLIA Ekspres to KLIA airport in 33 min for MYR 55. Free GoKL bus loops around KLCC/Bukit Bintang. Walking is challenging in the heat and lack of pavements — Grab short hops.

• Chinatown (Petaling St)

  Heritage shophouses, Central Market, Kwai Chai Hong murals — boutique heritage hotels.

• Bangsar / Bangsar South

  Expat cafés, cocktail bars, mid-range boutique stays — the local-life base.

Best time to run this itinerary

March–September is drier and warmer (26–32°C). October–February brings shorter but heavier rainy afternoons — mornings are usually clear. Ramadan (dates vary) means many local restaurants close during daylight but night bazaars boom. Formula 1 was previously held here; F1 has left but MotoGP (Sepang, October) still fills hotels.

Before you go

• Touch 'n Go card works on all Rapid KL trains, buses, GoKL free shuttle and highway tolls.

• Grab is cheap and honest — always cheaper than metered taxis in tourist areas.

• Malaysia is a Muslim-majority country — dress modestly at mosques (Masjid Jamek, Putra Mosque) and Batu Caves (robe rentals MYR 5).
