How this 7-day Muscat plan works

Muscat + Wahiba + Musandam

Each day below is grouped geographically so you spend your time in Muscat rather than in transit. Muscat is long and coastal — a rental car or hotel driver is the practical choice. Metered orange-and-white taxis are common but negotiate the fare; Careem operates in the city. Public buses (Mwasalat) connect main districts but are slow.

Day by day

• Day 1

  Day 1–2 — Full Muscat essentials.

• Day 2

  Day 3 — Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole.

• Day 3

  Day 4 — Wahiba Sands desert-camp overnight.

• Day 4

  Day 5 — Return to Muscat via Sur (turtle beach at Ras Al Jinz).

• Day 5

  Day 6 — Fly to Musandam (Khasab) — dhow cruise in the fjords.

• Day 6

  Day 7 — Return via Muscat or continue to Dubai (2h drive from Khasab).

  Old harbour, Mutrah Souq, Corniche promenade and the fish market.

• Old Muscat

  Al Alam Palace, Al Jalali and Al Mirani Portuguese forts, National Museum.

• Shatti Al Qurum & Al Khuwair

  Beach hotels, embassies and Royal Opera House Muscat.

• Al Mouj / The Wave

  Marina district — Kempinski, boutique dining and beachfront apartments.

Best time to run this itinerary

October–April is peak with 20–30°C days ideal for city sights, wadis and desert. May–September is very hot (38–42°C) and humid on the coast — head to Jebel Akhdar (10°C cooler) or Salalah's khareef monsoon (July–September).

Before you go

• Rent a car or hire a driver — Muscat's coastal sprawl makes taxis expensive for a full day.

• Fridays start slowly with Jumu'ah prayer — museums and souks open around 2 pm.

• Ramadan restricts daytime eating in public; hotel restaurants remain open behind screens.
