How this 2-day Osaka plan works
Osaka in a weekend
Each day below is grouped geographically so you spend your time in Osaka rather than in transit. Osaka Metro's 9 lines cover the city; the JR Loop Line circles central Osaka connecting Osaka Station, USJ and Tennoji. Shin-Osaka is the Shinkansen station (10 min north of central Umeda). Kansai Airport (KIX) is 50 km south — Nankai Rapi:t to Namba in 35 min (¥1,450) or JR Haruka to Shin-Osaka in ~50 min. Escalator etiquette — stand on the RIGHT (opposite of Tokyo).
Day by day
Day 1
Day 1 — Osaka Castle, Dotonbori street-food crawl (takoyaki, okonomiyaki, kushikatsu), Ebisu Bridge glico sign.
Day 2
Day 2 — Umeda Sky Building, Shinsekai + Tsutenkaku Tower, Kuromon Ichiba Market seafood lunch, Namba nightlife.
Where to base yourself
Namba / Dotonbori
Neon street-food strip + Shinsaibashi shopping. Best for food + nightlife.
Umeda / Kita
Business + luxury hotels (Conrad, Ritz-Carlton, InterContinental) + Umeda Sky Building. Best for business + connections.
Shinsekai / Tennoji
Retro downtown + Tsutenkaku Tower + kushikatsu joints. Atmospheric, especially at night.
Osaka Castle Park
Historic core + spring cherry blossom. Quieter hotels for culture-first travellers.
Best time to run this itinerary
March–May (cherry blossom + mild) and October–November (crisp autumn) are peak. June is rainy; July–August are hot and humid. Winter is mild and quiet. Osaka's Tenjin Matsuri (late July) and USJ Halloween Horror Nights (Oct) are major events — book hotels 3+ months ahead.
Before you go
Escalator etiquette — Osaka stands on the RIGHT (opposite of Tokyo).
Do not double-dip the shared kushikatsu sauce — use cabbage as a spoon.
Osaka Amazing Pass 1-day ¥2,800 pays off after 3–4 attractions + unlimited subway.
