5-day itinerary for Prague

How this 5-day Prague plan works

Prague deep dive + day trips

Each day below is grouped geographically so you spend your time in Prague rather than in transit. Prague metro (A/B/C lines) + trams + buses share one ticket: 30 min CZK30, 90 min CZK40, 24h CZK120, 72h CZK330. Old Town + Malá Strana are best walked. Uber + Bolt work well (CZK150–300 typical). Do NOT use unmarked taxis — meter scams common. Trains from Praha hl.n. reach Vienna 4h, Berlin 4h, Budapest 6h30.

Day by day

  • Day 1

Day 1–3 — Prague classic (see above).

  • Day 2

Day 4 — Day trip to Český Krumlov (2h30 by bus, UNESCO Renaissance town).

  • Day 3

Day 5 — Kutná Hora (Sedlec Ossuary + St Barbara's) or Karlovy Vary spa town.

Where to base yourself

  • Staré Město (Old Town)

Astronomical Clock + Old Town Square — Four Seasons, Ventana, Hotel Paris, U Prince.

  • Malá Strana (Lesser Town)

Castle-side cobbles + Charles Bridge — Aria Hotel, Augustine Rocco Forte, Alchymist Grand.

  • Hradčany (Castle District)

Prague Castle + St Vitus + Loreta — quieter luxury: Hotel Savoy.

  • Nové Město (New Town)

Wenceslas Square + shopping + Art Nouveau — Hilton Old Town, Grand Bohemia.

Best time to run this itinerary

May–June + September for warm days, long light and pre/post-peak crowds. July–August is peak — beer gardens full, hotel rates high. December is magical — Christmas markets on Old Town + Wenceslas Square. January–February is cheapest and snow-dusted; expect 0 to –5°C.

Before you go

  • Never change money at street kiosks — 30% rip-off rates; use ATMs at Česká spořitelna / KB / ČSOB.

  • Avoid unmarked taxis — always use Uber/Bolt or pre-booked Nejlevnější / AAA taxi.

  • Book Prague Castle skip-the-line + St Vitus tickets online 1 day ahead in high season.
