How this 7-day Sydney plan works
Sydney + Hunter Valley + coast
Each day below is grouped geographically so you spend your time in Sydney rather than in transit. Opal card (or contactless Visa/Mastercard tap) covers trains, buses, ferries and light rail with a AUD 17.80 daily cap and free Sunday transfers under AUD 2.80. Sydney Trains link the airport (T8, 13 min to Central for AUD 22 including gate fee). Ferries (Circular Quay to Manly, 30 min) are essential sightseeing. Uber and taxis are widely available.
Day by day
Day 1
Day 1–5 — Full Sydney + Blue Mountains.
Day 2
Day 6 — Hunter Valley wine day (De Bortoli, Tyrrell's, Audrey Wilkinson).
Day 3
Day 7 — Royal National Park coastal walk OR whale-watching cruise (season permitting).
Where to base yourself
The Rocks / Circular Quay
Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Park Hyatt, Four Seasons — Sydney's first-time icon base.
CBD / Barangaroo
Business district with Crown Sydney (Six-Star), Hyatt Regency Darling Harbour, harbour walkway to Barangaroo.
Bondi / Bronte / Coogee
Beach suburbs with iconic surf, Icebergs Pool, Bondi-to-Coogee coastal walk — beach hotels + Airbnb villas.
Manly
30-min ferry from Circular Quay — beach town lifestyle, boutique stays (Q Station), Manly-to-Spit walk.
Best time to run this itinerary
October–April (Southern Hemisphere spring/summer) is beach season — 20–28°C, long daylight, peak December–January when locals holiday. March–May is autumn with warm days and calm harbour. June–August (winter) is 8–17°C — great for city breaks, Vivid Sydney light festival (May–June) and whale watching.
Before you go
Contactless Visa/Mastercard taps directly on trains, ferries and light rail — no Opal card needed.
AUD 17.80 daily transit cap + free Sunday transfers (max AUD 2.80) — plan long ferry days for Sunday.
Swim between the red-and-yellow flags — Bondi rip currents are the world's most-rescued beach.
