5-day itinerary for Toronto

How this 5-day Toronto plan works

Toronto + Niagara Falls

Each day below is grouped geographically so you spend your time in Toronto rather than in transit. TTC subway, streetcars and buses cover the city — tap a Presto card, contactless credit card or phone at every gate (CA$3.35 per ride). UP Express reaches downtown from Pearson (YYZ) in 25 min for CA$12.35. Bike Share Toronto CA$15/day for 3,000+ bikes. Between attractions downtown, walking + PATH tunnels (30 km of underground walkway) works year-round.

Day by day

  • Day 1

Day 1–3 — Full Toronto highlights above.

  • Day 2

Day 4 — Niagara Falls day trip: Table Rock, Hornblower boat, Skylon Tower dinner.

  • Day 3

Day 5 — Kensington Market, AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario), Little Italy dinner.

Where to base yourself

  • Downtown / Entertainment District

CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Ripley's Aquarium, lakefront hotels — first-timer default.

  • Yorkville

Luxury boutique hotels (Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, Windsor Arms), designer shopping.

  • Queen West / West Queen West

Independent hotels (Drake, Gladstone), galleries, coffee, indie fashion.

  • Distillery District

Cobblestone Victorian streets, artisan shops, Christmas Market — no cars.

Best time to run this itinerary

May–October delivers the best weather (16–28°C) — patios peak July–August, TIFF hits September, Nuit Blanche in October. December brings ice-skating at Nathan Phillips Square, holiday markets and Christmas lights (–5°C days, packed hotels). January–February are very cold (–10°C or below with wind chill) but hotel rates hit their annual low.

Before you go

  • Get a Presto card for the TTC or tap contactless directly on gates.

  • Winters are cold — Toronto's PATH tunnels link most downtown attractions indoors.

  • Tipping 15–20% is expected at restaurants and bars.
