Arriving by train
VIA Rail Canadian to Toronto (4 days scenic Rockies — Kamloops, Jasper, Winnipeg). Amtrak Cascades to Seattle (4h) + Portland (8h).
Entry and arrival formalities
CBSA immigration; NEXUS cards cut wait to 5 min; expect 20–45 min without.
US citizens enter visa-free with passport. Visa-exempt nationals (UK, EU, Japan, Korea, Australia, NZ, GCC + others) need eTA CA$7 before boarding. Everyone else needs Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
Getting into the city
SkyTrain (Canada Line, Expo, Millennium) reaches YVR airport in 25 min to Downtown for CA$9.55 peak. Compass Card or contactless tap covers SkyTrain + SeaBus (12-min ferry to North Vancouver) + bus. Uber/Lyft available since 2020. Rent a car for Whistler / Vancouver Island / Squamish drives. Downtown, West End, Yaletown, Gastown all walkable to each other.
