How this 5-day Zurich plan works

Zurich + Swiss classics

Each day below is grouped geographically so you spend your time in Zurich rather than in transit. ZVV trams, buses, S-Bahn and Zürichsee ferries run on one integrated ticket; 24h zone-110 pass is CHF 9.40. Zurich Airport (ZRH) is 10 min from Hauptbahnhof by S-Bahn (CHF 6.80). The compact Old Town is walkable end-to-end in 20 minutes. The Zurich Card (24h CHF 29 / 72h CHF 56) bundles transit + museum entry.

  Day 1–3 — Full Zurich highlights.

• Day 2

  Day 4 — Lucerne day trip: Chapel Bridge, lake cruise, Mount Rigi or Pilatus cable car.

• Day 3

  Day 5 — Rhine Falls + Stein am Rhein medieval Old Town.

Where to base yourself

• Altstadt (Old Town)

  Medieval guildhall lanes, Grossmünster, Fraumünster and the Bahnhofstrasse shopping strip.

• Kreis 5 (Zürich West)

  Post-industrial creative district — Freitag Tower, Frau Gerolds Garten, design hotels and rooftop bars.

• Enge & Wollishofen

  Lake-front residential — quiet, upscale and great for summer stays near the badis.

• Niederdorf

  Historic east-bank pedestrian zone with restaurants, bars and boutique stays.

Best time to run this itinerary

June–September gives 22–28°C days, lake swimming (badis open) and Alpine day trips at their best. December brings Christmas markets, Sechseläuten in April and Street Parade in August. November–March is cold but ideal for ski day trips (Flumserberg 1h, Andermatt 90 min by train).
