North & South Malé Atolls: quickest speedboat transfer (25-60 min from Velana International, MLE) — no domestic flight, no seaplane wait. Best for short trips (5-6 nights) and travellers who hate more transit.

Baa Atoll: UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — the world's biggest reliable manta ray aggregation at Hanifaru Bay (May-November). 35-45 minute seaplane from MLE.

Ari Atoll: the whale-shark atoll — year-round juvenile sightings on the south side. 30-minute seaplane or short domestic flight + speedboat.

Noonu, Raa, Lhaviyani (Northern outer atolls): fewer resorts, quieter house reefs, longer seaplane. Best for repeat visitors chasing solitude.

Domestic-flight resorts require a hop on Maldivian or Manta Air plus a short speedboat — book the flight through the resort so timing is coordinated.
