About riads
A riad (from the Arabic 'ryad', meaning 'garden') is Morocco's most distinctive architectural gift — an inward-facing courtyard house designed for privacy, cool shade and the sound of a fountain at its heart. Stepping through an unmarked medina door, you leave the bustle of the alley and enter a world of tiled arcades, carved cedar and daylight filtered by orange trees.
Many riads are family-owned or locally run. Rooms are unique, breakfasts are often cooked to order, and hosts can be a great source of restaurant recommendations, hammam introductions and last-minute guide bookings.
